The Goblin in the World of Tomorrow
I just created a basic account on Second Life and gave it a try.
Holy Toledo and Most’a Downtown Cincinnati!
It was wonderously disorienting. I felt like Buck Rogers, stumbling halfasleep out of a cave and wandering into the world of the future. Watching the world build itself up as you arrive in a new location was dizzying. Hitting a key and leaping into the air to fly was exhilirating. Strolling around the Second Life Library 2.0 was grin-inducing.
I’m not sure how much time I really want to devote to this virtual landscape that’s come zooming out of Neal Stephenson’s Snow Crash, but if anyone else wants to hang out with me there, let me know. Josh Radio will be happy to meet up with you in our Second Life.

And if anyone sees Julie Ogg, that’s me.
But I haven’t made it off Orientation Island yet.

I’m so jealous! I can’t get my computer to let me on since nothing by Intel will support SL (and I have a laptop, so I can’t just swap out parts).

Well, my laptop is in no way SL-compliant, being small, cheap and running on Linux. Our family desktop, though, is very new and appears to do SL fine (if somewhat choppy).
