Being as interested as I am in unofficial librarian “conferences” and mixing business with pleasure, I couldn’t pass up an inviation to have dinner and drinks with some other local librarians. Last night was burgers, beer and brain-fevered librarians cracking wise, sharing secrets, and making dangerous plans to enjoy our profession at the same time that we do the best job we can. I don’t know how much we actually accomplished, but I haven’t had so much fun with likeminded library-types since grad school, so the evening was a success in my book.
Can we do this again? Like, soon?
I even heard some dissertation ideas – I consider it an evening of scholarly pursuits!
Absolutely!
By the way, I love your doctoral argument of “question everything.” I’ve always tried to live that way, but it’s particularly important to apply that to our own profession–including our very own ideas.
i think it’s great as well…the way the so-called planning works is that whoever pulls it together first plans/coordinates the next get-together…if you want to play cruise director, go for it…if you need e-mail addresses, let me know…glad you could make it… btw…keep up the good fight on the pla ‘serv…
