Out of all the social networking sites, I like the "feel" of Facebook the best. It is more exclusive than MySpace, but then again, the wide-open MySpace is plagued by porn, spam, and other mindlessness. Facebook gives some order to the chaos. What I would like to see, however, is more involvement from librarians in LinkedIn.

That's what I like about Facebook, too. Except...it also gives it a somewhat sterile, bland feel. In a similar vein, what I like about living in the suburbs is the lower crime rate and the good schools. What I don't like is the bland similarity of the neighborhood and the lack of vibrant, colorful, brash, chaotic mess. I detest spam, but porn and mindlessness? I think Facebook could use more of that. Or more importantly (and less facetiously), I think what Facebook needs is more openness.

I look at it like this, you don't walk into McDonalds and ask for a Whopper... And MySpace is the home of the Whopper.

Well, I think it's a little more complex than that. It's not a matter of slightly different product--MySpace and Facebook have different approaches and different attitudes towards membership, social networking, and the way the sites mesh with the internet at large.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was getting at... Variety. That's where the free market economy comes in to play, otherwise we're just homogeneous. Everyone does their own thing, and the (subjective) cream rises to the top because consumers buy their favorite flavor (I thought I'd keep this food theme going :) at least until a better one comes along anyway... BookFaceLinked anyone?
